Windows 7 Admin Mode

A nice tip from Paul Thurrott regarding a hidden feature in Windows 7. In essence, following the instructions below provides you with an easy way to update a number of settings in Windows 7.

To enable it:

  1. Create a new folder on your desktop (i.e. Right-click and click on New Folder).
  2. Right-click on the folder and click on Rename
  3. Copy and paste the following as the file name:SuperAdmin.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

(As a side note, you can replace SuperAdmin with any other word of your choice)
  4. Double click on the folder and you should see the following list of choices:

Mansfield Brass Quintet

The Mansfield Brass Quintet will be playing its annual evening of traditional holiday music on Saturday, December 19, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. Consisting of two trumpets, a trombone, a tuba, and a French horn, the group begins caroling at the corner of Mansfield and Madison Roads, proceeds down Madison, continues up Walsh to the Manor’s Christmas tree and finally down Mansfield to Madison ending its tour of the Gladstone Manor in the cul-de-sac at the intersection of East and West Windermere Terraces. The group stops to play under the Gladstone Manor’s historic street lights and at the Gladstone Manor Holiday tree. This year, as last, the Mansfield Brass will be joined by carolers.

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Cannot generate SSPI context

Another error that came my way this morning was the SSPI context error when trying to connect to a SQL server.

A colleague was trying to use SQL Management Studio to connect to a specific database server. His Active Directory credentials had been setup with data reader privileges to the specific database. Each time he attempted to connect to the database he received the error message:

    —————————
    Microsoft SQL Server Login
    —————————
    Connection failed:
    SQLState: ‘HY000′
    SQL Server Error: 0
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Cannot generate SSPI context

    —————————
    OK
    —————————

After trying some suggestions on the Cannot generate SSPI context support page, I stumbled on a forum post that discussed checking how the specific account was setup on Active Directory. It turns out that his account had an option enabled that was set to ‘Use DES encryption types for this account’.

    SSPI context

After disabling this option he was able to connect without any problems.

    EMR/ EHR Done Right

Earlier in the month, for a class discussion we watched a video titled ‘EMR/ EHR Done Right’. Essentially, how life should be after you’ve implemented electronic medical records.

To be honest, after watching the video, you wonder why things aren’t already setup as shown. Everything in the video, boring as it may be, is feasible today. Yet, because there has never been a push for standardization or interoperability in the industry, videos such as this show up.

It is definitely time for health care reform.
